Previous experience with the partnership: We have cooperated with three Norwegian partners so far within our three big projects. Our experience working with all three partners was positive and very beneficial.
Firstly, it was the organization GRID-Arendal in the project called Nature, who cares? (http://beleco.cz/popularizace-a-osveta/Siroka-verejnost/pribehy-ceske-prirody.html, 2015 – 2016), which was a big campaign focused at “promotion” of Czech nature among the widest public through various means like videos, excursions, workshops, on-line campaign and especially a feature film Planet Czechland (awarded best feature documentary at the most important Czech movie awards). This film was the most ambitious film about nature shot in the Czech Republic ever and those were our Norwegian partners who participated significantly through many consultations. They thus definitely contributed to the success of this demanding output.
The consulting role was also important with two other partners - Norwegian Institute for Nature Research (NINA) in the project Creating strategy for mitigating impacts of river network fragmentation in the Czech Republic (http://beleco.cz/odborna-cinnost/pruzkumy-monitoring-a-vyzkum/vytvoreni-strategie-pro-snizeni-dopadu-fragmentace-ricni-site-cr.html, 2015 – 2017) and Norwegian partner Norwegian Environment Agency (NEA) in the project Conservation and sustainable development of wetlands in the Czech Republic (http://beleco.cz/odborna-cinnost/pruzkumy-monitoring-a-vyzkum/ochrana-a-udrzitelny-rozvoj-mokradu.html, 2014 – 2016).

It consists of 11 departments, 2 Research Centres of Competence, and 6 laboratories. IBOT is a leading research institute in the field of plant ecology and taxonomy in the Czech Republic.
The responses of plants and vegetation to environmental changes and the mechanisms that enable species to coexist in ecosystems are one of the current research interests of IBOT.
The Department of Mycorrhizal Symbioses studies the mutualistic mycorrhizal associations between specific soil fungi and plant roots. The significance of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi for growth and mineral nutrition of host plants in anthropogenic habitats as well as in natural plant communities is studied. The group investigates interactions of arbuscular mycorrhiza and various stress factors of the soil environment. The department especially focused on the effect of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi on plant survival in degraded soils e.g. the soils affected by drought or with high heavy metal content, either under natural conditions or in areas affected by human activities. Another study area focuses on local adaptations of plants to mycorrhizal symbiosis.
The applied research is focused on the biostimulating properties of beneficial microorganisms in agricultural and horticultural crops. In addition, the interactions of beneficial microorganisms with phytopathogenic fungi is investigated.
The Department of Mycorrhizal Symbioses maintains two collections of mycorrhizal fungi strains. The isolate collection of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi from contaminated and degraded soils in the Czech Republic and other European countries is registered in the international database IBG (The International Bank for the Glomeromycota). The collection of ectomycorrhizal, ericoid mycorrhizal, DSE fungi and endophytes contains strains of the most important and cultivable representatives of these groups isolated in the Czech Republic and other countries.
Main topics planned to be discussed / worked: Effects of anthropogenic inputs on the plant and soil microbiome in nature and in agroecosystems.
Biostimulating properties of beneficial microorganisms and bio-based products in agricultural and horticultural crops for plants´ adaptation to changing climate.
Interactions of beneficial microorganisms with phytopathogenic fungi.
